Application
Petroleum ether may be employed in the extraction of biologically active carotenoid pigments from total carotenoid pigments by adsorption. It may be employed in solvent reservoir during the separation of lipid mixtures by adsorption chromatography with silicic acid.
General description
Petroleum ether is a high boiling point fraction having boiling point in the range of 50-70°C. Extracts of leaves of Litchi chinensis Gaertn. (Sapindaceae) have been prepared in petroleum ether and were evaluated for antiinflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activities.
